Intramural soccer teams are gearing up for the TCC District Cup Championship Oct. 31.
Bart Desender, NE intramural director, said he and the other campus directors are making preparations for the event.
“We buy the jerseys, the balls, pay professional referees and even pay for white lines to get drawn in on our grass,” he said.
To get ready for the championship matches, students will practice on their own unless their captains call a team practice.
“They’re responsible for their practice,” Desender said.
Student Christopher Strickler belongs to one of the NE teams.
“We never practiced before today. I practice by myself in the racquetball room,” he said. “We have a good team. We just need to practice.”
Several team members also play in other leagues outside TCC campuses.
Chris Draudt, a NE Campus student, said he has been playing soccer for six years, but this is his first time playing at TCC.
NE student Jonas Mutoke said he is doing the soccer intramurals because soccer is his favorite sport and playing gives him a chance to have a good time.
At the time of the championship, team members will wear jerseys of the same color with a number on the front and back. All players must show a TCC college ID before each game, Desender said.
“The winning team will get the championship trophy, and duffle bags will be awarded to each member of the winning team,” he said.
