Students will learn the dangers of binge drinking at a seminar Wednesday, March 7, 10:40–11:35 a.m. in the North Ballroom on SE Campus.
In Binge Drinking, Bob Phanelson, SE counselor, and Garrison Henderson, assistant professor of sociology, will discuss the risks of alcohol abuse. Along with them, a panel of counselors will define binge drinking and explain recent issues dealing with binge drinking and the domino effect of alcohol abuse.
Students will also learn about the facts and figures and the physiological effects of binge drinking.
“ I want students to get awareness of the ripple effect of binge drinking and the behaviors associated with binge drinking: sex, drugs and sometimes violence,” he said.
Harrison, a counselor of substance abuse, said a slide show will be part of the seminar and students will be able to give comments and ask questions to the panel.
The presentation will be repeated March 28 at 10:40 a.m. in conjunction with a health fair in the Main Commons.
