Facebook users now have an opportunity to be seen on TV and the Internet around the world on Facebook Diaries.
Facebook, an Internet social utility, recently announced a partnership that will allow Facebook users to create and share user-generated videos. Through the partnership with Comcast and Ziddio, contest host, people can share and give each other feedback on the home-set movies.
The contest begins March 1 and consists of 10 topics, each spanning two weeks over a 20-week period.
The users will be asked to submit short video segments about their lives.
Facebook users are encouraged to rate the videos. Videos that get the most votes and are the most interesting will be on one of the 10 half-hour episodes.
The producer of the show is R.J. Cutler, the Oscar-nominated, Emmy-award-winning producer of TV shows, including American High and 30 Days.
Owen Van Natta, chief operating officer of Facebook, said video sharing is extremely popular among Facebook’s 16 million users.
“ Through our partnership with Comcast, we are making it even easier for the Facebook community to share video content in a trusted online environment and giving them the opportunity to tell their stories on TV,” he said.
Sonia Porales, a University of North Texas student, said she is interested in participating in the contest but is too busy.
“ I have a lot of friends, and I talk to all of them using Facebook,” she said. “I love Facebook.”
However, Porales said she is too busy with other activities to make a movie.
“ Time won’t allow me to enter and make my own movies,” she said, “but I will certainly watch the show.”
Once the contest begins in March, students can log on to www.Ziddio.com to begin uploading.
