Take to the Skies (3 stars)
Enter Shikari has sold out London’s Astoria, maintained a huge following and been recognized as one of the best unsigned bands of its native U.K. Its powerful debut album, Take to the Skies, validates the hype.
The band is often praised for its unique sound (part post hardcore, part trance overdubs), but instead of combining the sounds, the band just places them over each other. This technique makes for music more unusual than revolutionary.
Still, the album is quite enjoyable overall.
With “Enter Shikari,” “Labyrinth” and “Mothership”–songs that scream energy and force, the lesser songs of the album, “Today Won’t Go Down in History” and “Adieu,” can definitely be forgiven.
All in all, Take to the Skies proves that Enter Shikari is definitely worth a listen.
