A place of honor will be given to SE Campus veterans during the Veterans’ Wall of Honor ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception at 1 p.m. Feb. 20 in the North Ballroom.
Plaques with photographs and biographies of participating veteran SE students, faculty and staff will be displayed, and Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis will speak during the event.
The wall is one of several initiatives SE has begun to make the campus more veteran-friendly.
“There’s an effort by the college districtwide,” said SE vice president of academic affairs Barbara Coan.
Coan said she formed a task force on SE more than a year ago to find ways to make transitioning back to civilian life easier for veterans.
Her son, Christopher, who served on the USS Nimitz 2000-2004 and in the Persian Gulf for eight months, provided part of the inspiration for the wall.
When thinking of him one day, Coan realized that SE had no way of honoring its veterans.
SE veterans wanting to become part of the Wall of Honor can contact Michael Cinatl at 817-515-3772 or in ESED 1112A.
