Students might notice the “Munchie Mobile” rolling around NE Campus Monday through Thursday evenings.
Since the cafeteria closes at 2:30 p.m. during the week, NE café manager Keith Gosselin saw the need to have a food cart open to hungry students attending evening classes and studying on campus.
“For students attending night classes, the hours of operation did not allow them to eat if they wanted to,” he said. “We want to be able to furnish food to them in the off hours.”
The menu currently consists of sandwiches, wraps, chips, cookies, snack bars, Pop-Tarts, sodas, water, energy drinks and pastries, said the cart operator Melissa Beeman.
However, the menu will change with the seasons and semesters. The idea is to have a constantly changing menu.
For example, spring foods and a fall menu will be available, Beeman said.
“Also a menu is provided so that students can put in their orders early and get them later,” Gosselin said.
This endeavor is new to TCC.
“We are really excited about this,” he said. “It’s going to allow students to eat when they want to.”
So far, it has been a success among the students who stay at school late. Plus, Beeman said she is willing to stay late to make sure that students can get what they want.
“I have stayed 30 minutes after the meal cart is supposed to be closed, and I don’t mind at all,” she said.
The “Munchie Mobile,” as the staff calls it, rolls around the chessboard and library.
“We are trying to make it as user-friendly as possible,” Gosselin said. “The menu is definitely open to suggestions, so we need to make sure students e-mail me with anything they want to see on the cart.”
The “Munchie Mobile” is open and on the prowl for hungry students 3:30-7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays.
Any student who has food or menu requests for the cart can e-mail Gosselin at necafe@ed-cat.com or call 817-515-6383.
