The Free Agents won the SE basketball tournament championship game 30-21.
Three teams came out to compete for the crown Oct. 24 with games starting off as double elimination. The teams played to 20, and the winners had to win by at least two points.
The intensity of the first game set the tone for the tournament with the Supersonics facing off against Kami Squad. The Supersonics had a 19-16 lead, but they could not stop Kami Squad’s hot shooting. Kami Squad defeated the Supersonics 21-19.
After a hard-earned victory, Kami Squad member Bibiano Prado was already enjoying the tournament.
“It’s a nice environment, especially since our game was so competitive,” he said.
Facing elimination, the Supersonics took on the Free Agents. After the long battle with Kami Squad, the Supersonics were worn down. The Free Agents got out to an early lead, and they did not look back. They went on to win 21-17.
Kami Squad played the Free Agents in the championship game that was played to 30. The Kami Squad knocked down some good shots early, but they could not stop the Free Agents from getting in the paint.
The champions were rewarded with Adidas team duffels while the second-place team received gym bags, and all teams received T-shirts.
Event coordinator Shahzad Nazir was pleased with the overall turnout of the tournament.
“It is good to see how competitive all of the games were,” he said. “The quality of the tournament was great.”
