Board votes to appoint replacement trustee

People can submit applications to fill the District 2 seat on the board of trustees through the TCC website.

Trustees at the regular board meeting Sept. 15 voted unanimously to appoint a replacement to fill Joe Hudson’s seat on the board.

The board will receive applications for the position until Sept. 26.

After a background check, a board workshop will be held Sept. 29 to review applicants.

After a final review and public hearing Oct. 20, the board will select a replacement at a board meeting that same day.

The appointee will serve until the next regular board election. At that election, which could be either in May 2012 or May 2013 depending on another resolution, a trustee would be elected for a term shortened to fill the remainder of Hudson’s term.

Applicants must live in District 2, which covers Bedford, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Westlake and parts of Richland Hills, Hurst and Euless.

The new trustee’s district will reflect the redistricting plan also approved by the board.

The redistricting plan reflects shifts in population shown in the 2010 census. By law, the seven districts must have approximately the same population.

The new district map moves 62 precincts. Most significantly, District 4 gained White Settlement and parts of North Richland Hills and Haltom City. District 5 also gained more of Arlington.

A complete map is available on the TCC website.

The plan is being sent to the U.S. Justice Department for approval.
