This weekend, Tarrant County College will host the annual Texas Association of Schools of Art conference on TR and NW campuses.
This conference gives students and faculty from all two-year and four-year colleges and universities with art programs a forum to discuss transfer curriculum and allows participants to network outside their own universities.
Scheduled to take place Sept. 23-24, Fluid Dynamics — Navigating the Evolving Arts includes many activities such as juried faculty and student art shows, seminars, workshops and Day in the District, which gives attendees free admission to all of Fort Worth’s museums.
The conference begins on TR Campus with registration, lunch and seminars. A Friday night reception will be held at Artspace 111, at 111 Hampton St. in Fort Worth.
On Saturday, participants can attend workshops and an afternoon awards reception for the student art show on NW Campus. That evening, the conference moves back to TR for an awards reception for the faculty exhibit and dinner.
Van Romans, president of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, will give the keynote address: Rethinking the Role of the Artist.
“This is the most significant conference for professionals in higher education,” said Scott Robinson, TR humanities divisional dean.
Robinson was approached to chair the conference after another location backed out this past spring. Robinson enlisted the help of Omar Hernandez, art department chair at El Centro College in Dallas, along with others to form a team of local college professionals.
Although the conference is open to students and professionals alike, all attendees must be members of the association to attend. The membership is only $5 for students and $20 for individuals.
The conference runs 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday.
