The Best in Show art show, hosted by the NE Art Association, is now on exhibit in NCAB College Hall on NE Campus.
The competitive art show includes 18 original, faculty-nominated paintings and digital artwork from students of art teachers Scott Parker, Andrew Stalder and Cindy Hurt.
Student Mary Beaumont has four pieces in the show and started painting only two years ago in Parker’s art class.
She liked painting so much that she has taken multiple art classes with Parker, she said.
Another of Parker’s students, Megan Bell, started taking art classes around the same time as Beaumont and is in her third semester with Parker.
“I’ve never really been in a show before,” Bell said. “It’s kind of cool, actually.”
Bell has three pieces in the art show. One, titled “Elephant Thingy,” features an elephant-octopus hybrid emerging from the horn of an old Edison phonograph.
Art student and attendee Alba Pichardo liked all of the artwork, but Bell’s “Elephant Thingy” was her favorite, she said.
“It’s just the fact that it’s weird, but I really like the details,” Pichardo said. “It looks more like a nightmare. It’s pretty awesome.”
The winner will be determined by popular vote and will receive a $150 cash prize. Ballots are available in College Hall, and each person may vote only once.
The exhibition will remain open through Oct. 20, and voting ends the same day at noon. At that time, the votes will be counted to determine the winner.
