CD Review-Shout! Live Mike Farris

Finding his way back into the hearts of Christian music fans, Mike Farris has returned with his new album “Shout! Live,” featuring the Roseland Rhythm Revue and the McCrary Sisters.

The song Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down is the best song on this album. The song is based on the story of Jesus’ resurrection. It provides a well-balanced mixture of Farris’ voice with the voices of the McCrary Sisters, which keeps an interest in the song.

Streets of Galilee tells the listeners that Jesus is alive and awaiting his followers in heaven. It is another good track because of the blues-like instruments throughout the song.

Appearing less than a year after his 2008 record Sunday Night Shout!, this release includes four of his hit songs from the record, nine new songs and a bonus track for $9.99 on his Web site.

Ferris’ smooth, rich voice hits the ears like a wave. He emerged from Nashville in 2007 with his critically acclaimed Salvation in Lights album. The former Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelie’s frontman surprised the listeners with how much soul he brought to the scene.

Since Salvation in Lights, his performances have received attention from his admirers as well as other artists. Despite playing music for years, Farris received the Americana Music Award’s New/Emerging Artist of the Year prize last year.

The McCrary Sisters, who sing behind Farris’ unique voice, add a special feel to the whole track. Their voices bring to the table a feeling of security and hope while pouring into the listeners’ ears and souls.

While listening to this CD, a sense of the can-do attitude is brought to life. The upbeat rhythms and tones given to us by Farris and The McCrary Sisters is one of joy and triumph.

They really do show the hard work that it takes to become skilled as musicians.
