NE Campus health services will sponsor a health fair Oct. 14 in the Student Center.
The fair will include a mammogram bus, sexually transmitted disease screenings, a blood drive and more.
“It’s good for people that don’t have insurance,” said coordinator of health services Pat Marling.
“JPS [Health] will be there to help students who don’t have insurance sign up for some.”
Other vendors such as AIDS Outreach, the American Cancer Society and the Fort Worth Women’s Health Initiative are also on the attendees list.
“There’s going to be a lot of free screenings from pregnancy to sexually transmitted diseases to blood pressure,” Marling said. “These things normally cost people a lot of money.”
At the fair, students can also get free fitness tests, vision screenings and chair massages among other things.
“I would go just to get the free chair massage,” said student Samantha Brown.
A mammogram bus will be parked outside the Student Center 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Because appointments are necessary, students should call 1-877-847-9355 to reserve their spot. Appointments should take no longer than 20 minutes. Most insurance is accepted.
Free STD screening is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in NSTU 1704. Appointments are encouraged, but students can just walk in.
Those with appointments will get tested first. Results are available one week after testing.
The blood drive will be located in a mobile bus and in the NSTU Galley. A photo ID is required. Those who plan to donate should eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before giving blood.
Appointments are not vital but will be taken first.
