Students can prep for math contest

Students can win scholarships in November and February by competing in the district’s two-round Jim Bolen Math Competition.

On NE, four free two-hour workshops are being offered every Friday at 1 p.m. starting Oct. 11 to help students prepare for the competition. Students will take mock tests the first hour of the workshop. In the second hour, the instructor will go over the test and answer questions.

South Campus is offering workshops 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays and 1-4 p.m. Saturdays in SNUR 1504.

TR workshops are scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Oct. 9 and 3-5 p.m. Oct. 15, both in TRTR 4808.

SE has not scheduled workshops at this time.

NW has no workshops scheduled, but students can obtain practice materials from math instructor John Martin in WCTS 2332C. He can also be reached at 817-515-7042 or john.martin1@tccd.edu.

Students can practice their math skills by solving as many sample tests as possible. They also are encouraged to form study groups by sending an email to members of the math club. All competition participants will be registered for the national contest.

Students should be ready to participate in both rounds of the competition. The first round will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 8, and the second is at 2 p.m. Feb. 28. Competition results will be announced during an awards ceremony at the end of the spring semester.
