A morning of exhibits, motivational speakers and networking opportunities is planned for TCC’s Seventh Annual Women’s Symposium Saturday, March 29.
The seminar is free and offers information on a variety of subjects pertaining to its theme: Political Empowerment through Education and Participation.
Featuring approximately 32 exhibits and displays dealing with women’s issues, the event runs 8:15 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Rotunda Auditorium (SRTA 1102) on South Campus.
Women in New Roles and Women’s History Month Planning Committee are co-sponsors.
WINR is celebrating its 30th Anniversary of full spectrum mentoring and advisement of women transitioning in their return to school.
Triesha Light, WINR program coordinator and 2008 NISOD Excellence Award recipient, said she herself was inspired to help provide educational enrichment by Emily Lunday Garrett, WINR founder.
The day’s events will begin at 8:15 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast.
At 9 a.m. the opening session, featuring several speakers, will begin. The general session speaker will be at 11 a.m.
“The speakers are very interesting and offer diversity,” Light said.
Scheduled to speak are Joy Thomas of Fort Worth Commission for Women, and two former Fort Worth City Councilwomen, Becky Haskin and Wendy Davis.
Exhibits and networking, voter’s education and registration, scheduled 10–10:55 a.m., will feature booths by WINR, several TCC career and student organizations, League of Women Voters and exhibits from both political parties.
Other exhibitors include Affordable Medical/Dental, Literary Books for Women, Tahitian Noni Juice; Bridge the Gap; Mary Kay; Prudential; Pampered Chef and others.
Entertainment and door prizes will round out the day’s proceedings.
Applications will be available for the Women’s History Month Scholarship for summer (open to both men and women).
WHM activities are already in full swing throughout March and into April.
Events will culminate with All That WINR Jazz, April 14.
