She & Him Volume One (4 stars)
She & Him’s debut, Volume One, is a simple but catchy one.
M. Ward teams up with the indie fav, Zooey Deschanel, to create a breezy collection of sweet tunes about love lost.
The lyrics are straightforward, but what the lyrics lack in complexity, Deschanel gains with her vocals.
She shows off her natural talents, and the endearing modesty laced in the tracks works wonders for the duo.
The only weakness to Volume One is the covers.
She & Him’s versions of “I Should of Known Better” and “You Really Got a Hold on Me” fall short of the originals.
Overall, Volume One is a stunning debut.
