Forensics students take top honors

Forensics club coaches have guided students through two tournaments this semester as team members walked away with event sweepstakes and individual winners.

Forensic students attended the TCCSTA State Tournament Feb. 9-11 on NE Campus.

Jessica Christopher took home third in Communication Analysis.

Carlos Pinero placed third in Impromptu Speaking and sixth for Program Oral Interpretation.

“ Our team successes stem from the collaborative efforts of coaches and team members,” Alma Martinez-Egger, speech instructor, said.

The forensics students also attended the Speech on the Beach Tournament in Corpus Christi March 2-4.

Christopher took home first place in Speech to Entertain as well as Communication Analysis.

Christopher also placed fourth in Persuasion and Overall Individual Events Top Speaker.

Chris Oldenburg received first in Informative and second in Prose. Pinero came in first in Program Oral interpretation and second in Impromptu Speaking.

Martinez-Egger said students spent hours developing and practicing their programs for the competition and demonstrated a positive attitude about their passion.

“ We are proud of our students and cheer them on toward the next tournament at Kingwood College and their nationals competition in April,” she said.

Some members will perform Friday, April 6, for Speech Night 4-9 p.m. in NFAB Theatre.
