In honor of Women’s History Month, TR Campus students will show off their performing arts skills March 6 in Riverfront Rhapsody, a talent showcase.
Performances will range from poetry readings to music, with an open-mic format. The event is sponsored by the TR African-American Student Organization.
Jazmin McAfee, the group’s vice president, is one of the event’s organizers.
The show’s theme will be historic female figures, McAfee said.
The purpose of the showcase, she said, is to pay tribute to women’s rights advocates and “to all women that helped throughout time and giving them a tribute as respect.”
Women’s History Month remains relevant because gender discrimination still goes on, McAfee said. She said it is especially difficult for African-American women in leadership roles.
“This gives individuals the chance to understand and recognize the women that paved the way for us,” she said.
The showcase will be held in the TRTR Riverfront Café noon-2 p.m. and is open to the public.
“I hope that students learn and take away the importance of uplifting each other,” she said, “and getting the realization that the women in the community and the school are important.”
