In the middle of distress and fear, one South Campus business major found hope and a fresh new start through the Women in New Roles program.

Angel Perez started taking courses at TCC after being told she could not move forward at TXU unless she went back to school.

Perez decided to pursue a business degree until one day she stumbled upon a WINR pamphlet. She immediately knew she had to enroll in the program no matter what.

Once enrolled in WINR, she took the Myers-Briggs evaluation test. She then realized a business degree was not her calling and she was pursing it because it seemed to work for others.

“ It [the test] woke me up to take a different career,” she said. The results led Perez to a total change in the way she viewed herself. She realized she was called to help people heal and grow.

One phrase has stuck in Perez’s mind: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Those words came from Treisha Light, coordinator of the WINR program and psychology professor, who encouraged Perez the most. “ WINR fed my spirit, inspired me. It let me know that if I didn’t do what I was called to do, the world would not benefit from what I had to give,” she said.

Perez was involved in a dysfunctional marriage for several years, and despite efforts to save her marriage, she was forced to take a stand and raise her children on her own.

Now she has her own Arbonne business as an independent consultant and regional vice president for the Fort Worth area. Arbonne, a beauty and health care company, gave Perez the opportunity to develop her leadership skills, provide for and spend more time with her children.

“ My Arbonne business has allowed me to go back and heal the wounds of childhood and poverty,” she said in her Arbonne testimonial. “It has taught me to reach deep inside of me and see my true worth and potential.”

Perez leads a 10-member team in her business and has great relationships with all of them. She said it was God’s grace that helped her find WINR, which ultimately led her to make a change in her career. “

I took ownership of my life,” she said.
