Math teacher to explain how numbers apply in regular life situations

Students need a wide selection of interesting mathematical topics and real world applications in their studies.

To meet that demand, Dr. Rhonda Hatcher will present The Mathematics of Voting Methods on SE Campus Wednesday, Oct. 10, 7-8:20 p.m. in the Campus Ballroom.

A non-technical speech directed to a general audience, the presentation is drawn from the first chapter of Mathematics Beyond the Numbers, Hatcher’s book on voting methods.

The book, a liberal arts text, covers concepts such as going beyond the numbers in mathematics, problem solving and exercises for students to understand.

David Price, SE associate professor of math, said Hatcher’s speech will motivate students to carry out what they learn in their everyday lives.

Hatcher teaches mathematics at Texas Christian University at the freshman and sophomore levels.
