South Campus orchestra students will participate in a free concert in Texas Christian University’s Ed Landreth Auditorium.
The concert is part of the Ensemble Concert Series Flute Festival at TCU Friday, Nov. 9.
The TCC flautists, accompanied by Alexis Still of international fame, will perform “The Pied Piper Fantasy.”
“ Corigliano’s ‘Pied Piper Fantasy’ is a seven-movement concerto for flute and orchestra,” Eric Tucker, TCC music instructor, said.
Tucker said the story of the musical piece is that of the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who took the children of a city as payment after the people refused to pay him for ridding the city of a rat infestation.
The music was performed by noted flautist James Galway in 1980 for the opening of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra’s season premiere.
The concert is a feature of the Ensemble Concert Series Flute Festival, Nov. 9–10, in PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU.
