Early diagnosis of AIDS and HIV through testing can provide an opportunity for treatment that can prolong life and prevent further infections.
According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 million estimated people in the United States were living with the infectious disease in 2003.
The CDC also reports that each year approximately 40,000 more people in the U.S. become infected.
To help with awareness of the problem and need for early detection, the NE Campus health services department will offer free AIDS and HIV screening.
Testing is scheduled the third Wednesday of every month through April.
The tests will be conducted 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in NSTU 1704 Nov. 14, Jan. 16, Feb. 20 and April 16. Test results are immediate.

Students and faculty having any of the identified risk factors should consider getting tested:
Unprotected sex of any kind.
Multiple sex partners.
IV drug use or sex with someone who used drugs.
Shared needles or razors.
Contact with blood, saliva or other body fluids from another person.
Tattoos or piercings with instruments not properly sterilized.
