Viewpoint-Santa list includes return of princess

I just want someone to hit me if one more time there is more coverage over Britney Spears’ divorce, rehab or partying than over actual news.

Seems like the cover of every magazine has a headline like “Britney is a bad mother” or “Britney missed another custody hearing.” Apparently the fall of America’s pop princess is what every tabloid lover wants to read about these days.

I personally am a Britney Spears fan … or, at least, was. I was glad when I heard she was divorcing Kevin Federline. To me, that meant our pop princess was ditching her white trash ways and was on her way to a comeback. Instead, she dropped to all new lows. She started going out every night, leaving her two boys at home.

Then her actions progressed into alcohol, drugs, showing everyone her Britney, rehab and her famous breakdown when she shaved her head. At that point, America knew the problem was serious.

She makes Federline look like a better-fit parent. She has lost primary custody of her kids because of all this, and it looks as though she is not trying very hard to get them back because she misses court hearings and drug tests left and right!

But in the middle of all this drama, she managed to release an album although not to her normal fanfare.

Blackout has received no promotion other than her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, if one would call that promotion. Her seemingly catatonic performance proved to everyone that she was not the same Britney who had graced the VMA stage so many times in the past. Her “performance” was a disaster.

Still, she makes mistakes for the entire world to see and critique.

I don’t buy into the whole media coverage of her life. She is going through a bad divorce and so on, but that is not an excuse for all the bad headlines.

If she wants to have a comeback, she probably could. But, come on, if someone is going to wear a shirt as a dress, she at least should wear panties! Once is an accident; twice could be an oversight. But the third through fifth times indicate an action done on purpose! Ew!

In some sense, she hurts herself and on a higher, more tragic level, her children. But we cannot deny she has talent as an entertainer or she would not have been deemed pop princess.

Maybe Santa will bring that princess back to us.
