HEB to pamper cancer survivors with beauty day

Breast cancer patients can receive a day of free treatments April 27 that do not require doctors.

Harris Methodist HEB Hospital and Macy’s at Irving Mall are joining forces to provide women with cancer a chance to get pampered.

“ Treatment with chemotherapy and radiation often leads to hair loss and can make it a challenge to feel beautiful while undergoing therapy,” Lisa Orr, public relations coordinator, said.

The pampering party is at HEB Hospital at the Edwards Cancer Center Atrium on the ground level. Sessions are available from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.

“ How you feel emotionally can have an impact on your ability to get well, so we are really focusing on treating the whole patient—body, mind and spirit,” Mildred Jordan, cancer registrar at Harris Methodist Hospital and the creator of the program, said.

Women can enjoy a day of beauty tips, makeup how-to’s, massages and a relaxing day of pampering. Comfort Wigs, Etc. of Lewisville will be on site customizing, fitting and styling wigs. Comfort Wigs specializes in wigs and skincare for cancer patients.

“ Cancer doesn’t take only a physical toll,” Jordan said. “It’s just as much of a psychological battle.”

HEB Hospital began the bi-annual beauty day in October 2001. More than 40 women participate each beauty day and more than 425 women have received pampering since 2001.

The last day to register for the event is April 25 but walk-ups are welcome.

Women interested in attending can call 817-685-4716 to reserve a spot for the free day.
