NE Campus students and teachers will have the opportunity for training by a former New York City opera singer.
Joan Wall, a vocal coach and former Metropolitan Opera singer, will work with TCC vocal coaches and students over a two-day period 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 24-25 in NFAB 1129.
Wall, named professor emerita at Texas Wesleyan after 44 years of teaching, has sung as the principal performer at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Germany.
She has written several vocal diction books.
Wall will work with the vocal teachers, NE choirs and individual students.
“We wanted to motivate our students with their performance skills,” said Bobbie Douglas, NE music assistant professor. “Tuesday morning, she will be working with the faculty in a pedagogy class, which is a study of the science of singing and how voice teachers learn to teach singing.”
Later in the day, in a master class setting, Wall will work with some students who will learn how to interpret the songs they are singing, Douglass said.
Wall will meet Wednesday with the TCC choirs on various performance techniques, including expansive movements with some vocal improvisation.
