Chelsea FC, Pinewood secure SE soccer wins

A frosty Saturday morning greeted four teams of students to open another season of intramural soccer on SE Campus.

The first game, between Chelsea FC and Random Peeps, was delayed until all the players showed up on the field. No one stood on the sidelines to cheer on the teams, but it was still early.

The opening game was mostly a display of fundamental soccer techniques. The weather’s role in the game was evident. Some of the attempted goals went sailing when the wind caught the ball.

“The wind affected the play of the game,” said Sergio Garcia, Chelsea FC player.

Chelsea FC defeated Random Peeps 3-2.

DTP and Pinewood Apartments started the second game competitively. But between the harsh crosswinds and the cold weather, the contest quickly turned into a blowout. It appeared they were playing just for fun when one Pinewood player asked what the score was. It looked like Pinewood’s day when a kick from the goalie nearly went in the net. In the end, Pinewood defeated DTP 11-4.

More intramural soccer games will begin at 9 a.m. every Saturday for the next three weekends on the SE soccer fields.
