Making healthy meal choices, finding the perfect outfit, getting a job and keeping it and going green will fill the schedule for the eighth annual Women’s Symposium on South Campus this weekend.

Sponsored by the Women’s History Month Committee and the Women in New Roles Network, the symposium runs 8:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 4 in the SSTU Living Room. The event also features more than 35 displays in the cafeteria.

Jennifer Brown, an independent consultant for Homemade Gourmet, will display her company’s products. Brown described them as dry food mixes that when added to a few other ingredients make quick delicious dinners that save time and money in the kitchen. Brown will also display Homemade Gourmet’s “4 Meals in 4 Minutes” line that allows cooks to prepare four meals in four minutes.

“Homemade Gourmet strives to bring families back to the dinner table by providing quality, affordable, easy-to-prepare meals, education and direct sales opportunities,” said Brown, explaining the company’s mission statement.

Renea Green, owner of Renea’s Gifts and Things, will display different items from her women’s clothing shop. Green said she has everything from casual wear to evening gowns with all the matching accessories, including jewelry, shoes and handbags.

“I want to be a personal shopper for the woman who does not like to shop,” she said.

Dr. Elizabeth Branch will sponsor the Working Women in the Winner’s Circle display. Branch said the curriculum, which she wrote, helps at-risk women get a job and keep a job. Branch said the program is offered through the Destined to Adorn organization.

Businesses and universities, including Mary Kay, Arbonne International, Allwood Travel Agency, Earth Elements Jewelry and Dallas Baptist University will also sponsor displays.

The opening question-and-answer session, Green Innovation: A New Way of Doing Something — The Myth, the Reality, and the Future, begins at 9 a.m. Carlos Antonio Rovelo, a South Campus government instructor and the North Texas Corporate Recycling Council member, will make the multimedia presentation on new ways of recycling and going green.

The general question-and-answer session begins at 11 a.m. with Kathleen Hicks, Fort Worth City Council mayor pro tem. Hicks, the youngest woman ever elected to the Fort Worth council, will present How Green is Fort Worth. During her time on the council, she has made economic development for her district a top priority.
