Former Israeli president Shimon Peres will visit for a college fundraiser later in the semester, TCC Foundation executive director Joe McIntosh said at the Jan. 15 board of trustees meeting.
Peres will headline A World View, the TCC Foundation’s fundraising event, at 11:30 a.m. March 23 in the Fort Worth Convention Center ballroom as part of the college’s 50th anniversary celebration.
“He’ll share his unique insight to current international affairs, education, the Middle East region, its impact on the world and implications for the world’s future,” McIntosh said.
Information about tickets and reservations are available through the TCC Foundation office.
Discussion of TCC’s 50th anniversary gave the public a small peek at the 2015 celebration plans.
Board member Gwendolyn Morrison said the 50th anniversary logo has been approved, and the website is complete and ready to go live soon.
“There will be commemorative items available to the community,” she said.
Other events surrounding the 50th anniversary for the college include South journalism adjunct and co-chair Bill Lace’s endeavors over the last few months.
“He has worked with people all over the city and state developing a pictorial history for the college,” Morrison said.
The book, having around 250 photos, has a publication date set for March. And an e-book also penned by Lace, encompassing the college’s history has a July 31 publishing date.
The board also heard SE President Bill Coppola introduce a presentation that highlighted the campus’ Student Leadership Academy. SE student development associate Natalie Gamble shared her experience with watching the program grow.
“With the support and encouragement of my colleagues, director, vice president and president, I feel like they provide me with a blank canvas each semester, and the students provide colorful ideas for projects, community service projects, and it provides a beautiful collaboration,” she said.
