NW Campus vice president of community and industry education Arrick Jackson will be featured weekly on KVCE 1160 AM with Alliance for the Brave Partnership, airing 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays, speaking to veterans about programs available to them on NW.
“The radio program began with our College Credit for Heroes program, which started a relationship with the radio program because we used them for advertising,” he said. “Over the break, one of their main hosts left, leaving an open spot with an opportunity for us to turn our advertisements into an actual program.”
KVCE has a target audience of veterans with its Alliance 4 the Brave program. With the open spot, KVCE wanted to change the program’s format.
“The general manager of KVCE, Robin Valetutto, had the idea to develop a weekly radio show for veterans and developed a platform looking at different perspectives for veterans from jobs to health to networking,” he said. “She wanted to bring in the educational aspect, which is where NW comes in.”

NW offers various programs that align with military skills including the police and fire academies, occupational safety, business and aviation.
“Having this spot allows us to extend the conversation, talking about who the faculty is in our program, what the programs involve, experiences classmates have had and allows us to have a dialogue with veterans for the call-ins we do at the end of the show,” he said.
The radio program features different guest speakers each week over different topics from the various programs NW offers.
“No one can tell our story better than us,” he said. “Our speakers include teachers, students who have actually gone through the program and even some of their family members, which all offer good perspectives for prospective students to go off of.”
Jackson said the show aims to highlight the programs NW offers so they can better serve veterans in their transition into civilian life.
So far, the feedback has been positive, Jackson said.
“The general manager has been excited,” he said. “We have gotten a lot of positive feedback internally as well as from listeners and the NW Campus.”
The radio program has a six-month agreement with KVCE. However, the full lineup for those six months has not been scheduled yet.
