South will host a Midterm Madness barbecue with games, music and prizes 11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 5 just outside of the SCLC writing center building.

Learning labs manager Gabby Raymond said they started the event last year and wanted to continue it this year.

“We decided to have the event as a chance for the writing center to give back to students,” she said.

Raymond expressed the center’s appreciation for students’ trust and participation.

“Despite our issues with low staffing over the past two semesters, students have faithfully come to the center, showing how much they believe in us and how much they want a writing center,” she said. “We just hope this shows the community how much we appreciate their support.”

Raymond said they would have games such as bingo and writing center trivia to give winners the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of faculty members such as herself.

“We talked about who would do it, and I guess I’m the lucky volunteer,” she said.

The barbecue will be held just outside the SCLC building with the food located under the natural shade the building provides and other outdoor games like Frisbee on the grass in front of that. However, if the weather is bad, the writing center has reserved the SSTU dining hall if they need to move everything indoors.
