With an abundance of poorly made horror films released every year, it’s nice when one comes out that veers away from the conventional.
It Follows, directed by David Robert Mitchell, brings viewers an original concept on the psychological aspect of horror that relies on suspense and tension to engage viewers.

The story revolves around a sexually transmitted curse. A supernatural entity seen only by those who are cursed and can take the appearance of any person will follow the victim at walking pace and brutally murder if caught. The latest victim is Jay, played by Maika Monroe, and the film follows her mission to rid the curse.
This film doesn’t rely only on jump scares like most horror films today. It uses tension and unpredictability perfectly to terrify its audience.
The strong performances also elevate the film, but Monroe steals the show. Her convincing performance keeps the audience engaged with her character and rooting for her to make it to the end alive.
The visuals also excel at demonstrating the chilling and creepy atmosphere throughout the entire film with the dark tone set at the beginning.
With originality, simplicity and smart use of suspense, It Follows is an enjoyable film any horror fan will appreciate.
