No air, no class, no warning

SE Campus closed until 4 p.m. April 25 because of an air conditioning malfunction.

SE Campus facilities manager David Waldrop said the campus lost power around 10 p.m. Sunday because of a storm.

When the power came back, the air conditioner was still out.

“A chiller went down,” he said. “Students still went to their 7 a.m. classes, but we decided to close the school at 7:30 a.m. It was like 78 degrees inside, but the humidity made it feel worse.”

Students said they didn’t receive a Campus-Cruiser alert about the campus closing. SE student Kristina Haddock said on TCC’s Facebook page she would have saved some time if she had received an alert.

“Why haven’t they used the text message service to get the word out?” she said.

“I drove out there instead of CampusCruiser telling me.”

SE student K.C. Gesjen was mad that she didn’t get an update.

“Hell yeah, I wish I would’ve seen this before I drove here and walked to class,” she said.
