The Texas Camerata, a historical ensemble, will perform a concert series using baroque instruments on Feb. 23.
Artistic director Kristin Van Cleve will perform along with professional artists Lee Lattimore, Kevin Hall, Karen Hall and Joseph Butler.
“The type of instruments that the students are going to hear at the concert are the types of instruments that Bach and Handel were listening to when they were composing all of their music,” Van Cleve said.
The group of professional artists has been in existence for 26 years. It performs concerts for colleges, churches and other events, showing the students how the counterparts differentiate from the ones used in today’s modern symphony.
“The musicians love what they’re doing and love to share music with people, so the students will be able to ask questions and get an up-close experience with the instruments,” Van Cleve said.
Professional musician Karen Hall explained her appreciation for the ensemble and the significance of the baroque instruments.
“The instruments have a lighter touch and are more responsive, and I enjoy the intimate sound,” she said.
This event will be at 7 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111) on NE Campus.
