TCC to go back in time

NE students are encouraged to “spring to the future” at this year’s Spring Fest 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 12.

The theme was inspired by the Back to the Future movies.

“I thought it would be fun to do a theme, and we were talking about doing something where we could do through the decades and we could even do a costume contest,” student development associate Michelle Taylor said.

Those looking to participate in the costume contest can dress to represent a certain decade ranging from the ’50s to the future. Each decade will have a winner.

“We thought that would kind of just be another fun thing we could do with the program,” Taylor said.

The festival will also feature a live DJ, who will help tie in the theme of various decades, as well as different booths by student clubs and organizations, games, free food and vendors from four-year universities, nonprofit groups and the surrounding community. Natural Grocers is one of the local vendors students can expect to see, Taylor said.

“Most of our vendors usually have some sort of freebies or giveaways they give out to the students or they do a $100 donation to the college,” Taylor said.

Other freebies students can look forward to include food, drinks as well as pink T-shirts.

Student activities hopes to have a food truck and a fun activity for students but is still working on getting approval, Taylor said.

“It’s set to be outside [the Student Center] unless there’s bad weather. Then we’ll be inside the Student Center,” she said.
