“It’s a one-stop health shop, and most of it is free,” said NE health services coordinator Pat Marling. “Students can get the basement bargain price of $12 on flu shots, free blood pressure and glucose screenings. They can donate blood and join the bone marrow registry. And if they want, they can get a free chair massage just for fun.”
Poor health hurts attendance, which hurts grades, Marling said. The fair gives information and services that students need to stay healthy.
“We need to keep students well to keep them in class, and this is a great way for students to give themselves the proper check-up at little to no cost,” she said.
Several vendors will be on hand to offer health advice, Marling said. Organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the Arthritis Foundation and Tarrant County Public Health will assist students in finding the right solution to any health problem they, a family member or loved one may have.
The JPS Health Network will have intake professionals to help those who may not have health insurance with financial screenings to see if they qualify for either of the two assistance programs that JPS currently offers.
“The application is easy to fill out, but students will need to prove they live in Tarrant County and have proof of finances along with a few other documents,” she said.
“Each program offers tremendous savings at several JPS clinics around Tarrant County so there is absolutely no reason for any student to go without health care.”
