Pressure mounts on South

South Campus’ intramural basketball season continued March 3, and Do Wurk could be one of the only teams capable of beating undefeated 4’s Up.

Do Wurk beat the Free Agents 63-42 to improve to 5-1. The team was led by Milan Rasevic, who scored 16 points including four three-pointers. Rasevic liked his team’s chances to compete because of the way it plays as a team.

“We play hard both ways. We play as a team, and we keep having different top scorers every game. So we’re a pretty diverse team,” he said.

Do Wurk’s newest addition to the team may be the piece of the puzzle it needs to compete with 4’s Up.

James Johnson, who played his first game of the season with Do Wurk March 2 and scored eight points, instantly made an impact in the paint and on rebounds, establishing himself as the biggest man on the court.

“I think having a big guy down there can help a lot,” he said. “It creates double- and triple-teams down low, which makes it easier to run high-low screens and get open shots.”

Rasevic agreed that adding Johnson could help them compete with 4’s Up.

“It definitely helps to have him because he’s bigger than everyone else,” he said. “It’s always good to have a big man like that on your team.”

While Do Wurk improved its team, 4’s Up seemed to take a step backward. It beat the Therapists 76-62 to improve to 6-0. But the Therapists have South’s worst record at 0-6. With five minutes left, 4’s Up had only a 56-54 lead before pulling away in the end.

“As the league goes on, the teams are going to figure us out a little bit,” 4’s Up forward Charles Castleberry said. “We just need to stop playing sloppy.”

The other game of the day saw Unstoppable, who started the season 3-0 but then lost two straight, facing the 2-3 Eastside Ballers. Both teams went to 3-3 after guard Marcus Mims led the Eastside Ballers to a 76-52 win. He had 19 points in the victory.

League play continues next week with two weeks remaining in the regular season until the playoffs start March 29.
