The South basketball intramurals continued Feb. 22 and Feb. 24, including a game of two teams trying to stay undefeated.

The first game was between Unstoppable, who beat The Therapists 54-43 on Feb. 22, and Do Wurk, who beat the Eastside Ballers 48-47. Unstoppable came into the game 3-0, but Do Wurk point guard James Hall wasn’t going to let them get to 4-0.

Do Wurk won the game 46-45 behind Hall’s clutch shots down the stretch as he took the ball to the basket with ease.

“I could tell they were fatigued,” Hall said. “So I took advantage of that, and it made it easy for me to get inside.”

Hall led the way with 15 points, six of which were on Do Wurk’s final three possessions helping them overcome a late rally by Unstoppable, who at one point was down by 11 points.

4’s Up, who looks so far to be the top team, stayed undefeated by beating the Eastside Ballers 58-50 and improving to 4-0.

Chris Franklin led all scorers with 15 points, nine of which came on free throws after he couldn’t find any rhythm with his jump shot and decided to start taking it inside and draw fouls.

“I had to make something happen, but anyone who was watching the game could have seen I couldn’t hit a single shot,” he said. “Going inside was the only option.”

But 4’s Up won the game on the other side of the ball with its defense. Denzel Jones, Sterling Hunt and Charles Castleberry shut down the Eastside Ballers in the first half, giving up only 19 points.

“We played good team defense today,” Jones said. “And defense is the key.”

Intramural director Michael Daniels said 4’s Up is the team to beat, but the team shouldn’t become overconfident.

“4’s Up is good, and they’re going to be tough,” Daniels said. “But in the season, every team plays each other two or three times. And it’s hard to beat the same team two or three times, so it’s not going to be easy for them.”

The Free Agents, who beat the Therapists 46-44, improved to 1-3 while the Therapists dropped to 0-4. In one stretch in the first half, the teams made a combined nine turnovers before either had attempted a shot.

The South intramural basketball season continues this week as 4’s Up will try to avoid its first loss.
