NE discusses mentoring program

The cancellation of a speaker didn’t stop the NE Campus Student Leadership Academy from holding its mentoring session Oct. 25.

Instead, student development associate Amity Womelsdorff facilitated a discussion on mentoring with the student leaders.

Womelsdorff said NE staff had been talking with representatives from the Men of Color mentoring program to get ideas on taking the SLA mentoring program to a fully functioning level. The SE Campus already has a full-blown mentoring program, and the goal is to have the NE Campus SLA mentoring program in the same shape, she said.

NE is still working out the kinks in communication and attempting to find dates and times that are conducive to attracting the most students to come to SLA meetings, she said.

Teachers are issuing an email correspondence to students to help get the word out about the mentoring program. Faculty members will contact students directly to see if they are interested in being mentored, Womelsdorff said.

The mentoring session will be rescheduled, and the new date and time will be announced.
