South Gobble Wobble expected to attract hundreds for charity

Upwards of 250 students, faculty, staff and community members are expected to put a little wobble in their weekend Nov. 17 at the annual South Campus Gobble Wobble.

The 5K event, a pre-Thanksgiving tradition on South, will benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank and the TCC Foundation’s student scholarship program.

Participants may register Nov. 14-16 at the health and physical education department (SHPE 1229A) or starting at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event at a tent on the parking lot on Joe B. Rushing Drive to the north of the SHPE Building. The run-walk starts at 8:30 a.m.

TCC students, faculty and staff can register by bringing five cans of nonperishable food. Nonstudents pay a $10 fee along with the five cans of food.

In addition, for every group of five that signs up, one participant can join for free and all can race. The fee for group registration is $40 and 20 cans of food.

Those who registered on or before Nov. 13 will receive Gobble Wobble T-shirts. Entrants registering after that date will still receive T-shirts, but desired size is not guaranteed.

This is the first time the Gobble Wobble will be conducted on a Saturday rather than mid-week.

“We’ve been doing the Gobble Wobble for so many years,” health and physical education chair Michael Daniels said.

The event was changed to a weekend so more community members could participate.

The top three male and female finishers in the different age groups for walkers and runners will receive prizes.

“As of right now, 156 people have signed up,” Daniels said. “We’re hoping that maybe 250 or in that range will compete.”
