March 31 NE Campus student activities and health services will sponsor Afternoon Tea 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Tarrant County Public Health chronic disease prevention division manager Glenda Redeemer’s topic is How to Talk to Your Doctor and Get Them to Talk to You. Redeemer earned her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and has worked as a continuing education instructor on NW Campus. English teas and lunch will be provided.

 

March 31 Monica Miranda, South career center coordinator, presents Dress for Success 1-2 p.m. in the SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.

 

March 31 TR’s lunchtime workshop series presents Understanding Grief noon-1 p.m. in Discover Room (TRTR 3102). The workshop will explore the basic elements of grief, common threads of grief and coping strategies. Contact the center for academic success at 817-515-1039 for more information.

 

April 1 The Love Conference: At the Heart of the Matter will address the love of self, family, friends and romantic love. The conference, in room WSTU 1303/05 and other classrooms, will offer different workshops 8 a.m.-12:20 p.m., a special speaker at 12:30 p.m. and free lunch afterward. Space is limited, so students must register on WebAdvisor continuing education or in front of the Bookstore 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. March 31. April 1 NE Campus student activities and mental health department sponsors Anger Management 1-4 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Millwood Hospital director of outpatient services Jane Phillips will discuss roots and consequences of anger, anger distortions, cognitive and behavioral coping skills, effective communication and the role of forgiveness. Students can attend free. Professionals must pay $20 because the seminar awards three contact hours. April 1 NE Campus communication arts department will present Speech Performance Night 6:30-8 p.m. in the NE Playhouse. Admission is $5, which will be used to help support the speech and debate club’s travel to a national tournament in New York. April 2 Students have until today to submit an online application for a diploma or certificate of completion. The commencement ceremony will be 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the Fort Worth Convention Center. All students applying need to meet these requirements: complete 25 percent of required courses earned at TCC, earn a 2.0 for all courses, complete all Texas Success Initiatives and satisfy all financial obligations to the college.

 

April 2 Last day for students to receive a 25 percent tuition refund for dropping a spring second 8-week term.

 

April 5 NE Campus student activities and Guitar Club will hold a fundraiser 7-10 p.m. in the NSTU Cafeteria. The event is to help the club raise money for trips to compete against other guitar players. After a performance from the ensemble, individuals can purchase stage time of 10 minutes for $3, and full bands can purchase 30 minutes for $10. Drinks and snacks will also be sold for $1. April 6 Jolynn Sprole, director of financial aid, presents Financial Aid for College Success 11:15-12:15 in the SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.

 

April 7 South Campus health services will sponsor a health fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Center first-floor hall, lobby and cafeteria. Students, employees and the public can gather information on organizations and health issues and participate in screenings such as blood sugar, blood pressure and weight. A marrow donor registry will run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. outside SSTU 1102. A Carter BloodCare mobile unit will be on the north patio 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for a blood drive. In addition, the AIDS Outreach Center will conduct free, confidential HIV testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in SSTU Bluebonnet Room.

 

April 7 South Campus student activities is sponsoring Spring Fling 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in SSTU 1103A on South Campus.

 

April 7 The South Campus health and physical education department, student activities and Community Outreach will sponsor Spring 2 Spring, 2 Mile Walk-Run 2:30 p.m. on South Campus. Check-in begins at 2 p.m. in the SHPE gymnasium. All entry requirements benefit the American Red Cross: $5 minimum donation (checks only) payable to American Red Cross.

 

April 7 The NW Campus Health Fair will provide students with free blood pressure and cholesterol screening as well as information from more than 25 vendors on everything related to health including Children’s Health Insurance program, the Lupus Foundation, organ donation and massage therapy. The fair will run 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in WSTU 1303/05. Students can schedule a mammogram with the Harris Methodist mobile unit 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the driveway that leads from the parking lot to the WFAB building. Students can get an appointment or more information by calling 817-515-7790. For those wanting to donate blood, the Carter BloodCare mobile unit will also be on the driveway 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

 

April 7 The Community Volunteer Fair will be in front of the cafeteria 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students can meet with local organizations that use volunteers and get information on application and volunteer requirements.

 

April 7 Flo Stanton, South Campus health services coordinator, will present Laughing Your Way Through Stress 6-6:45 p.m. in SSTU Bluebonnet Room on South Campus.

 

April 10 Last day for students to drop spring Saturday classes with a grade of W.
