Kim Kerby-Dickman, a NE physical educator, sponsored an intramural bowling tournament at AMF Showcase Lanes in Euless March 22.

Sixteen people showed up to participate, including students, faculty and staff, and each bowler was paired evenly, two per lane.

The tournament was split into three games: singles, doubles and scotch doubles.

A handicap system, based on percentage out of three games, allowed the less-experienced bowlers to compete with the more experienced bowlers, creating a more competitive, but less stressful atmosphere for all.

In the singles tournament, each was paired with another bowler, but they played for themselves, not for teams, and were split into highest female and highest male categories.

Melissa Logan, a bowler for 14 years, won the highest female category, bowling a 171. She takes regular morning bowling classes at Showcase Lanes.

“It was a lot of fun,” Logan said. “That was the whole point of coming out here.”

Cammeron Evans, a second-year student at TCC, won the highest male category with a score of 154.

In the doubles tournament, Valerie Perez and William Duckworth won overall, bowling a combined 268.

In the scotch doubles tournament, the winners were Melissa Lewis and Lola Obe, bowling 160.

Showcase Lanes gave free game passes to each of the winners.

“It had good attendance,” Kerby-Dickman said. “I’m really glad everyone came and had a good time.”

Kerby-Dickman said the event was a way to remind students of the fitness options the campus has to offer.

“We use the intramural events to promote the HPE building, and I would like to remind everyone that these events are completely free for students, faculty and staff, and they should make use of the HPE building as often as possible,” she said. “All they have to do is check in at the office by the main entrance.”
