The Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth presents The Medium and Its Metaphors. The exhibition brings together photographs from the museum’s permanent collection and metaphors from the 1840s to present. Masterworks of American Photography: Series and Sequences is on display at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. The display of images shows new insights of the artistic process of photography with multiple exposures and groupings. The NE Campus art faculty presents the Northeast Art Faculty Sampler, including various forms of art from TCC teachers. A reception for students and the TCC community will be 5-7 p.m. Sept. 5 and artist talks 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 6:15-7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Sept. 8
Dristen Smet Rode 50 Miles will be held at the Grackle Art Gallery in Fort Worth. Curated by assistant director and TCC instructional aide Paul Leicht, the show includes a mixture of paintings, photographs, drawings and mixed media. Several of the artists are from the NE fine arts department. The show will run 6-11 p.m. The gallery is open for scheduled shows or appointment only. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents Lucian Freud: Portraits, paintings of his neighbors, friends, family, lovers, royalty and art world personalities. Organized by the National Portrait Gallery in London, this exhibition is the only venue in the U.S. The museum is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday and Saturday-Sunday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $4 for students with IDs and free for Modern members and children 12 years old and younger. Admission is half-price every Wednesday. The Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth presents Industrial Monuments: Photographs and Works on Paper from the Machine Age. The exhibition showcases photographs, drawings and prints of the American industrial landscape between the early 1910s to the late 1940s. Sept. 5
Sweet Vibrations is the first of the fall Sammons Jazz series for the Sammons Center for the Arts in Dallas. The Ed Smith Quartet will open with a jazz vibraphone and percussion. The Brad Leali Quartet will then hit the stage with alto sounds on the saxophone. The show will be 7:30-10 p.m. with the doors opening at 7 p.m. Regular tickets are $40 and $35 for center members. Onstage in Bedford presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Based on the classic comic strip, the musical exhibits Charlie and his friends as he tries to find the meaning of being a “good man.” Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Circle Theatre in Fort Worth presents See How They Run. This British comedy is set around World War II in a fictitious countryside living room. Stage West Theatre in Fort Worth presents Around the World in 80 Days. Phileas Fogg and his manservant Passepartout race against the clock and calendar alongside unforeseen misadventures. Fiddler on the Roof is on stage at Artisan Center Theatre in Hurst. A poor dairyman in the small town of Anatevka, Tevye teaches his five daughters the traditions of the Jewish community while battling the social changes of Czarist Russia. The classic musical of a father and his traditions is great for all ages. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday with a 3 p.m. Saturday matinee. Artie’s Playhouse of the Artisan Center Theatre in Hurst presents Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Kids. The Hundred Acre Woods is brought to the stage in Pooh’s hunt for honey. The NE Theater Playhouse will host the Regal Opera Company for The Mystery of Sherwood Manor. The musical consists of a murder-mystery where characters are not who they seem. The Fifth Sun will be on stage at the Rose Marine Theater in Fort Worth. The story of Oscar Romero, archbishop of El Salvador, is in celebration of the Mayan calendar with special collaboration with the Latino Cultural Center of Dallas. The play includes Mayan and Catholic culture, rituals and history. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Rent
will be on stage at Theatre Arlington. Rent tells the story of a group of friends trying to survive with AIDS in New York City and is for mature audiences only. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History presents RISK! The 5,000-square foot exhibit showcases situations on the human perception and misperception in risky situations.
