The board approved the official Strategic Plan for Tarrant County College’s Vision 2015 during the April 15 board meeting.
After three months of planning, TCC received 15,000 comments and in-house suggestions from six community meetings on how to improve the school.
The plan was created with the feedback gathered from the meetings.
“The whole plan was focused around looking at where we are today, evaluating that and then telling us where they thought we needed to move and venture,” Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley said.
“I think involving the community in this process is one of the best things we could have done in looking at strategic planning.”
TCC’s goals for the plan include supporting student learning and success, ensuring affordability, accessibility and diversity that reflect the community as well as promoting institutional effectiveness, project manager Mark Cook said.
“Affordability, open access, quality teaching and learning are our primary aims and should remain so,” Cook said. “So our goals are really reflective of that.”
The plan is made up of 19 different strategies to help the district reach the goals, such as expanding distance learning, increasing student financial aid and establishing master real estate and academic plans.
Cook said it would take a combined effort from everyone to help move the plan forward.
“It’s about promoting safe, technologically adaptable, functioning, teaching, learning, working facilities for students, faculty and staff in our community,” vice chancellor of real estate Nina Petty said.
The plan was unanimously approved.
At the end of the meeting, TCC approved an Early College High School program for students entering ninth grade this fall.
Students participating will be required to wear uniforms and will be segregated from college students.
The program is paired with the Lake Worth school district and will allow 30 students to attend college classes on the NW Campus.
