Prizes and popcorn will be available during the NW Campus Poetry Fair 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in WSTU 1303-05. The English department will man booths where students, faculty and staff can learn how to write different types of poetry. The fair is co-sponsored by the English department and student activities.

The TR Campus Lunchtime Workshop Series presents Résumé Writing noon to 1 p.m. in Discover Room (TRTR 3102). Attendees will receive help in preparing a résumé that will make a good impression on potential employers. For more information, call Margot Garza at 817-515-1039.

TCC Computer User Group will hold a general meeting 1-3 p.m. on South Campus in SSTU Living Room. Presenter Charles Overstreet will give research on Alzheimer’s disease.

Trinity River Campus has adopted a section of the Trinity River for cleanup and maintenance. Volunteers will pick up trash to keep the adopted site beautiful 10 a.m. to noon. Call Angel Garcia at 817-515-1196 for the start location.

NE Campus celebrates Earth Day with a full schedule of activities in NSTU Center Corner. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with a presentation by Daniel Huckaby of the National Weather Service-Fort Worth. Also included are a 10:30 a.m. dance performance and a noon lunch. The afternoon’s theme is For Future Generations: Facing Today’s Environmental Issues. At 1:45 p.m., Mark Allen, EPA tribal liaison, and Jim Lane, Fort Worth water board member, will present Sacredness of Water. Beginning at 3 p.m., visitors can enjoy a Native American drum/dance group, singers and storyteller by the chessboard. Jim Schermbeck, Downwinder at Risk director, will discuss DFW Clean Air Plan at 4:30. The day closes with a 5:30 p.m. tree planting ceremony.

NW Campus student activities will present the Campus Awards Program for NW Campus students 6 p.m. in WSTU 1303-05. During the program, 65 winners will receive certificates for their academic success based on GPA and credit hours. Students have been notified if they will receive an award.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure — 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:30 a.m. in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. NE Campus team leader and HPE instructor Lynn Fieser wants faculty, staff, students and all other friends and family to join her team and for the team to meet at the Starbucks at 404 Houston St. at 8 a.m. for a group picture. The adult donation registration amounts are $35 for competitive timed participants and $30 for all others. Upon payment, event T-shirts and goody bags will be given. Deadline for TCC students who want to compete in the district speech contest to register through their speech teachers. Students must be enrolled in either Fundamentals of Speech Communications (SPCH 1311) or Public Speaking (SPCH 1315). Participants are allowed to use a speech prepared for class. The competition will be 1-6 p.m. April 30. Students will need only one speech for the three-round competition.

Students wanting a summer or year-round job or just looking to explore possible careers may find what they want at the NW Campus Job Fair. Representatives from more than 20 businesses including security, child care, banks and UPS that are currently seeking to hire students will participate. Free cotton candy and popcorn will be available. The fair runs 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in WSTU 1303-05.

TCC Computer User Group will hold Genealogy Special Interest Group 9-11 a.m. on South Campus in the SSTU Texas Room. Speaker Ila Johnson will talk about genealogy, the programs available for people to trace their lineage and Web sites to visit for more information.

South Campus English department presents Poetry Slam 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Cafeteria on South Campus. To participate, students can sign up at SCLC 0209 or at the judge’s table at the start of the event. The cost is free, but space is limited, so students should register early. Entrants are encouraged to bring three poems. First-, second- and third-place winners will receive prizes. SE Campus will hold Preparing a Portfolio 8:30 p.m. in ESEE 1319. Rizi Faruqui of Cunningham Architects will discuss the importance of a good portfolio and tell how to create one. This seminar is free and open to the public.

SE Campus will host Next Step: A Night of Transitions 6-8 p.m. in the North Ballroom. This meeting will recognize graduates and their scholastic achievements as well as provide information to further their academic careers. This meeting requires a reservation but is free. Students stressing over exams might want to attend Getting Ready for Finals: How to Beat Finals Week 12:30-2 p.m. in SACA 1120 on South Campus. Chris Carcerano, center for academic success coordinator, will give the presentation.

NE Campus will present Veterans Health and Education Benefits 3-5 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Speakers include a transition patient advocate, a suicide prevention coordinator and an education compliance specialist.

TR health services will sponsor a Carter BloodCare blood drive. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and music are available for blood donors. Donors must be at least 17 years old, healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID. At least 56 days must have lapsed since a last blood donation. TR health services will host a National Bone Marrow Registry 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Main Street in the Trinity River Building. Students and staff can register to donate marrow and help those with potentially fatal blood diseases. Donors must be in good health, age 18–60 and have no history of cancer, diabetes or heart attack/heart disease. For more information, call Dr. Louanne Schulze, TR counseling director, at 817-515-1280.
