NE Campus celebrates Earth Day with a full schedule of activities in NSTU Center Corner. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with a presentation by Daniel Huckaby of the National Weather Service-Fort Worth. Also included are a 10:30 a.m. dance performance and a noon lunch. The afternoon’s theme is For Future Generations: Facing Today’s Environmental Issues. At 1:45 p.m., Mark Allen, EPA tribal liaison, and Jim Lane, Fort Worth water board member, will present Sacredness of Water. Beginning at 3 p.m., visitors can enjoy a Native American drum/dance group, singers and storyteller by the chessboard. Jim Schermbeck, Downwinder at Risk director, will discuss DFW Clean Air Plan at 4:30. The day closes with a 5:30 p.m. tree planting ceremony.

NW Campus student activities will present the Campus Awards Program for NW Campus students 6 p.m. in WSTU 1303-05. During the program, 65 winners will receive certificates for their academic success based on GPA and credit hours. Students have been notified if they will receive an award.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure — 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:30 a.m. in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. NE Campus team leader and HPE instructor Lynn Fieser wants faculty, staff, students and all other friends and family to join her team and for the team to meet at the Starbucks at 404 Houston St. at 8 a.m. for a group picture. The adult donation registration amounts are $35 for competitive timed participants and $30 for all others. Upon payment, event T-shirts and goody bags will be given. Deadline for TCC students who want to compete in the district speech contest to register through their speech teachers. Students must be enrolled in either Fundamentals of Speech Communications (SPCH 1311) or Public Speaking (SPCH 1315). Participants are allowed to use a speech prepared for class. The competition will be 1-6 p.m. April 30. Students will need only one speech for the three-round competition.

Representatives from more than 20 businesses including security, child care, banks and UPS that are currently seeking to hire students will participate. South Campus English department presents Poetry Slam 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Cafeteria on South Campus. To participate, students can sign up at SCLC 0209 or at the judge’s table at the start of the event. The cost is free, but space is limited, so students should register early. TR health services will sponsor a Carter BloodCare blood drive. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and music are available for blood donors. Donors must be at least 17 years old, healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID. At least 56 days must have lapsed since a last blood donation. TR health services will host a National Bone Marrow Registry 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Main Street in the Trinity River Building. Students and staff can register to donate marrow and help those with potentially fatal blood diseases. Donors must be in good health, age 18–60 and have no history of cancer, diabetes or heart attack/heart disease.
