The Tree Campus Project, which SE Campus has worked on for the past semester, is coming to an end.
To celebrate this accomplishment, the campus will hold its Arbor Day celebration 11 a.m.-1 p.m. April 30 in the North Ballroom and on the front lawn.
A disc jockey will play music while students eat hot dogs and hamburgers grilled on site, said Ruben Najera, a SE student who helped put the event together.
A Tree Campus USA plaque will be presented to Dr. Judith Carrier, president of SE Campus, Najera said.
Information booths will have material from the Texas Tree Foundation, Texas Forest and the city of Arlington.
Various games and the judging of the Chalk About It competition, where students decorate the sidewalks with an environmental theme, are among the day’s events, he said.
“There will be a walk/run event that participants are asked to bring canned goods to receive a T-shirt and help out people that are in need,” Najera said.
The Tree Campus USA project has helped SE Campus become more green and more cautious about its environment now and in the future, said Dr. Tim Gilbert, associate vice chancellor for teaching and learning.
The free event is for SE students, faculty and staff.
“Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of environmentalism and how trees greatly impact all of our lives by attending Arbor Day,” Najera said.
