The Latino Cultural Center showcases the seventh annual Hecho en Dallas exhibition featuring many local professional artists. The Latino Cultural Center received 393 pieces, and only 57 from different media were selected for the exhibit. Visitors will see anything from sculpture to photography reflecting on political, social and personal concerns. The Latino Cultural Center is at 2600 Live Oak in Dallas. Carillon Gallery presents 2010 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Joe B. Rushing Center for the Performing Arts on South Campus. All pieces are by students enrolled in 2009-2010 South Campus art classes. Hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Admission is free. A closing reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. April 29 in the gallery.

Stage West presents The Lonesome West, a dark comedy that takes place in the small village of Leenane. It’s not a typical Irish village since a few suspicious deaths, including an accidental shooting, have occurred there. The play provides twists and turns, darkness and laughter and a few touching moments. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $20-$30. Theatre Arlington presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This Tony award-winning musical will take the audience inside the world of six self-promoting adolescents competing for the spelling bee title. NW Campus art department is bringing sculptures by several well-known artists to an outdoor exhibit in front of the Fine Arts Building. The 2010 Sculpture Walk will kick off the exhibit noon-1:30 p.m. April 21 on the lawn outside WFAB toward the highway. Some of the sculptors will be on hand to talk with students, faculty and staff, and food will be served. TCC faculty whose works are in the show include Mark Mueller, Angel Fernandez, Mike Pavlovski and Chris Cunningham. The sculptures will stay on NW Campus for different lengths of time, some for up to a year.

NE Campus presents a Sophomore Recital starring James McKinney on the jazz guitar. The recital will feature students Sam Jones on drums, Estela Costa on flute and Kaye Askins on piano as well as faculty performer Philippe Baugh on bass. The selections include “Misty” by Erroll Garner, “Beautiful Love” by Victor Young, “Triste” by Antonio Carlos Jobim and “Spain” by Chick Corea. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in NCAB College Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

The NE Dance Club presents a hip-hop master dance class featuring artist Excel Garner from New York. He has worked with many famous artists, one being Ashanti. This is Garner’s second year teaching hip-hop master classes on NE Campus, and he welcomes dancers of all levels to his class. NW Campus dance department will present Momentum: A Moving Experience at 6 p.m. April 23 and 24 in the Scott Theater in the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased in advance at business services or at the door on performance night. Dances will include three student-choreographed pieces, and styles will range from ballet to hip-hop.

NE Campus drama will sponsor In Celebration of Womanhood 7-8:30 p.m. in NFAB 1205. The evening’s entertainment will include stories, dances and songs that highlight unique challenges women face and will celebrate their success. The event costs $10 at the door. Boys’ Life, NW Campus’ newest production, follows three friends as they flounder through life after college. The play will run at 7:30 p.m. April 28-May 1 and 2 p.m. May 2 in Theatre Northwest. Tickets are free for TCC students, faculty and staff, $3 for non-TCC students and senior citizens and $6 for the general public. Because of the play’s strong language, the production is inappropriate for anyone under 17.

SE Campus will hold its third annual Chalk About It event 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the front entrance to the E-wing. The cement on the outside of the building will become a canvas for artists who will create artwork with sidewalk chalk. Registration runs through April 27. The Sammons Center for the Arts presents the Annual Artistic Director’s Concert. The first set will include The Sammons Jazz Ensemble with artistic director James Gilyard. Monty Alexander, featured artist, will perform with the Sammons Jazz Ensemble. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Quincy Jones and Bill Cosby. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas present Mexico: Festival of Toys. The exhibit will feature more than 600 toys showing the craftsmanship behind the tradition of folk art in toy making.
