Honors group gives students scholarships

One TCC organization not only recognizes its members’ academic achievements but offers them financial assistance as they move on to four-year schools.

Virginia Arredondo, president of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on South Campus, said joining this honors society is a great opportunity for scholarships.

Users can choose between Internet or digital delivery

Every student has obligations off campus, and distance learning courses have given TCC students the flexibility to attend college while fulfilling other responsibilities since 1973.

Distance learning director Kevin Eason said DL courses are a great alternative for students who do not learn well sitting in class with an instructor.

SE mathematician receives state teaching award

A teacher on SE Campus is the recipient of a statewide award.

Elise Price, assistant professor of mathematics, was named a Piper Professor for 2010 by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. The foundation awards $5,000 to 15 professors across Texas every year. Applicants are nominated by their institutions, faculty and administrators.

TR blood drive to benefit Texas teenager with blood disorder

TR students can learn about their health and help a child with a rare blood disorder Sept. 1 until 3 p.m.

The health fair runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in TRTR Action A, B and C and the TRTR Main Street. Various vendors will provide health information and free screenings.

Disability services support students in need

Disability services support students in need

Learning disabilities are a lifelong issue and cannot be cured. However, students can succeed in school with the right support and intervention, TCC officials said.

For that reason, students with disabilities are provided with disability support services centers.

The DSS offices located on each TCC campus provide accommodations to students with disabilities enrolled in both credit and non-credit programs.

Finding the motivation to maintain energy naturally is no easy task, so many students find themselves skipping breakfast or lunch and heading straight to the local convenience store for a Red Bull or Monster.

“I don’t have time to think about eating breakfast. I wake up, get ready to go, and I’m out the door,” said Nikki Frazier of NE Campus. “Sometimes, I’ll grab food while I’m out, but it’s easier to just get a Monster and go to class.”
