In honor of Hispanic heritage, SE Campus will sponsor a special performance by the band Tamborimba Nov. 10.
“Every two years, Texas Christian University has a big Hispanic Heritage festival, and they invite all kinds of performers from the Latin countries to come to the festival,” said Ivan Mino, SE reading and world languages department chair. “We try to get one of the performers that go to the TCU campus to come to the TCC campus to perform so that our students can also enjoy the culture as well.”
The Tamborimba is a classical band that consists of three men and one woman in their 20s who play a percussion ensemble.
“The Tamborimba are the best classical music artists in Latin America,” Mino said.
From Colombia, Mino said the group is popular in Latin countries. They tour all over Latin America and have been on stage with well-known performers.
“Most people know Colombia for a drug country and not for the great talent that this country has to offer,” Mino said. “I think it is important for students to also get to know that Latin America has great classical talent as well as many other kinds of talents.”
Even though this concert is a Spanish concert, everyone can enjoy it.
“Music speaks for itself,” Mino said. “We will translate the message if they are spoken in Spanish so everyone can understand it.”
This classical concert given by the Tamborimba is free because “we like to give back to the students and the community,” Mino said. The concert will be 10-11:20 a.m. in the North Ballroom.
