An interactive presentation addressing the seven habits of social media users — even the negative ones — will take place Oct. 22.
Alma Martinez-Egger, director of employee online learning, will give the presentation 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Larry Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus.
When she received training on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, she realized in her research that social media users also develop habits, Martinez said.
“The first few habits we will discuss are negative ones,” she said. “People don’t realize that what is put on social media has implications.”
Martinez pointed out that a person can find people even if they don’t want to be found if they post their pictures on a site such as Facebook or LinkedIn.
“If you took my picture right now and posted it to Facebook, people can use the GPS location of the picture to find you,” Martinez said.
“That’s why we are discussing how to stay out of trouble on social media and break bad habits like that.”
The other habits are also about effectively using social media and staying safe, Martinez said.
“These habits that we develop can really keep you out of trouble,” she said. “This includes not putting things out there that could get you arrested, keep you from being hired at a job or kicked out of school.”
