South Campus’ Velocity dance students are preparing for the formal spring dance concert Kaleidoscope 2012 at 7:30 p.m. April 27-28 in the Carillon Theatre.
Gypsy Ingram, South dance associate professor, has been preparing the dancers for the annual spring concert, which will showcase classical and contemporary ballet, modern dance, Afro-Caribbean dance, jazz, hip-hop and musical theater.
The concert will also feature an aerial silks dance piece. This is the first time for TCC to present this form of dancing.
In February, Ingram said, Velocity attended the South Central Regional American College Dance Festival in Laredo.
More than 60 dances were presented, and Velocity performed twice at the festival, which was hosted by Texas A&M International University.
Ingram said the entire company presented “The Soil Beneath” and did a good job representing the dance program, South Campus and TCC as a whole.
Also, Neiman Calvin choreographed and danced the solo performance “Life Story.” The solo performance was one of two performances that received a standing ovation out of the 60 dances, Ingram said.
Kaleidoscope is open to the public and is free to TCC students, faculty and staff and $5 for general admission. No reservations are required, but the box office opens at 7 p.m., and early seating is encouraged for guests. For more information, contact Gypsy Ingram at 817-515-4270.
