Intramural basketball team We Eatt won the SE 3-on-3 basketball tournament March 24, defeating Unstoppable 20-16 for the championship.
Unstoppable had an early 13-5 lead by dominating the paint.
We Eatt players Christian Couthen and Angel Perez double-teamed in the post to try and create turnovers.
We Eatt’s defensive strategy helped it get an 11-0 run.
Chris Stevenson closed the game out at the free throw line to take his team to victory.
Couthen credited his teammates’ efforts on defense.
“We switched it up and went on a nice run,” he said. “That’s why we’re We Eatt. We may be down, but we’re always hungry.”
In the first game, We Eatt defeated Team Team in a tight 19-17 overtime game. Team Team’s Blair Moffatt shot well from behind the three-point line, making five three-point shots during regulation.
With the game tied at 15-15, We Eatt player Preston Steward drove to the basket and was fouled.
Steward needed one free throw to close out the game but missed both to force overtime.
Steward made sure he didn’t miss again as he scored four consecutive field goals to get his team a victory.
“We could have avoided OT,” Steward said. “I have to take my time and don’t rush the play.”
Team Team player Jason Hamilton said his team was too aggressive.
“We got in foul trouble too early,” he said. “I wanted to be physical with this team and keep them from putting the ball on the floor.”
Unstoppable defeated Elite 4, 20-13, to move on to the championship game.
After blowing away Savage 20-6, No L’s went on to face We Eatt.
No L’s player Joe Meyers struggled to find his shot
throughout the game. No L’s couldn’t stop Stevenson as he scored 10 for the game.
Stevenson said his team was active on both sides of the ball.
“We had good ball movement and played with high energy,” he said. “We’re real focused.”
